About us

The Basel Institute on Governance is an independent non-profit institution devoted to interdisciplinary research and policy advice in the areas of public, corporate and global governance, including self-regulation. Fighting corruption and money laundering, as well as regulation mechanisms and compliance systems, have been a particular focus of work over the past years.

The Institute acts as a centre of competence by combining scientific methodology with hands-on practical experience to provide applied solutions to concrete problems. It offers tailor-made solutions to its partners in the three pillars of public governance, corporate governance and global governance.

Based in Switzerland and associated with the University of Basel, the Institute is composed of internationally recognised academics as well as practitioners with long-standing experience in the matters at stake. It further relies on an extensive network of partners from all over the globe and works in dialogue with a large set of concerned stakeholders, including academic institutions, local or international NGOs, companies or business associations, multi-lateral organisations and the international donor community.
