Global Compact Brazil – Construction and Engineering Anti-Corruption Collective Action

The construction sector plays a critical role in economic growth and social development, particularly in developing countries. This anti-corruption Collective Action initiative is a demonstration to Brazilian society that the construction sector is taking seriously the issue of integrity and the fight against corruption in all its forms. It is also a way of contributing to the evolution of the sector from education to commitment to anti-corruption principles.

The main objectives are to:

  • change the culture of the construction sector;
  • promote a “clean business” environment through improved practices and regulation;
  • ultimately level the playing field.

The engagement of the biggest companies serves as the catalyst to scale up to reach small and medium-sized enterprises. Moreover, the initiative could facilitate the dialogue between the members and the government to identify legislative gaps in order to improve transparency in the sector.

In 2020 the group has chosen to focus on promoting integrity in the supply chain. The companies will engage their supply chain through an online platform with videos and materials on the importance of anticorruption and integrity.
