NEW job vacancy: Medical Supplies Theft Specialist (legal), Malawi
The Basel Institute on Governance’s International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) is looking for a Medical Supplies Theft Specialist (legal). ICAR has been mandated by the UK Department for International Development (DfID) to implement a multi-year program in support of Malawi’s efforts to pursue corruption and related complex financial crime.
ICAR assistance to the DTIU will principally be in the form of an embedded expert. This expert will be supported by and collaborate with other international embedded ICAR experts and local ICAR staff working in Malawi.
This will include assisting the Malawi Health Ministry’s Drugs Theft Investigation Unit (DTIU). The DTIU has been created in response to widespread concern that substantial quantities of medical products, paid for by donors and pharmaceutical companies, were being stolen, with significant adverse impact on availability of medicines to public hospitals and clinics. The main objectives of the DTIU are to reduce the theft of drugs in the public health sector, to fast-track criminal and disciplinary investigations into those suspected of stealing drugs, and to improve supply chain management to prevent theft of drugs.
